Here’s an odd deal. The leader of the North American Mission Board CEO search committee will not even be a trustee come June 18th, meaning that an 'outsider' will not only lead the search but will have a vote on whom to recommend to the NAMB trustees whenever a candidate is decided upon.
I'd have to say that isn’t exactly riveting news. The individual we’re talking about is Ted Traylor who is completing eight years as a NAMB trustee and who has chaired the NAMB search committee. Since he rotates off as a trustee at the close of this year's annual meeting, trustees wanted him to stick with the work. Traylor is also candidate for SBC president.
I don't suppose I see any big problem here. NAMB trustees can handle this however they wish; nonetheless, it's unusual. If the search depends so much on him, and the trustee action points that way, I'd at least raise one eyebrow.
Baptist Press has a story which notes,
While Traylor's eight-year term as a NAMB trustee expires in mid-June, trustees voted in executive session to allow him to continue to chair the search team. The extension gives Traylor a vote on the search committee, but he will not have a vote when the entire board of trustees ultimately decides on a new president of NAMB.Guess we will see what, whom, they come up with. Shall we look for a member of the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force?
