Sad story, strange story, ridiculous story, Huckabee's toast

Strange story of the week: World's youngest granny... ...Hmmm, mother at 11, grandmother at 23. In the same family the great-grandmother is only 40. With an interest in genealogy, Plodder wishes they would continue the line. Is the great-great grandmother alive? The GGG-grandmother and, possibly the GGGG-grandmother? The most recent death of a GGGG-grandparent of mine (that I know about; I have 64 GGGGs but can identify only 36) was about 65 years prior to my birth. One of my GGGGreats was a Revolutionary War veteran long dead but this granny girl's might be able to look her GGGGgrandmother in the eye. Makes your head swim.

Jobs scarce? How about $50k annually with solid job security for the rest of your life? Gummit job? Nope. Plumber in Atlanta. Companies that do in-home plumbing are literally begging for people who have the requisite technical and social skills. Social skills? As in knowing how to talk to people, not having a bizarre covering of tattoos, and knowing to hitch your pants up above the fault line. Fine. Get a bunch of tattoos so you'll look good in the unemployment line.

Sad story of the week: Dead soldier and Army dog return home together Lance Corporal Liam Tasker, from Kirkcaldy in Fife, was shot dead while on patrol in Helmand province. L/Cpl Tasker, who was called a "rising star" by Army chiefs, was shot by Taliban snipers and his dog Theo died of a seizure shortly after his master. The ashes of the 26-year-old's dog Theo will be flown home on the same plane.

R.I.P.: David Broder political reporter...actually talked to voters. Not one for the pugilistic talk shows.

Speaking of politics, it's not too early for 2012. Plodder deigns to offer an early prognostication: Mike Huckabee is toast. Toy with the birther paranoia, describe Obama's youth in Kenya? Concerning the latter, Huckabee's spokesman "dutifully lied" (as George Will put it) and said Huck meant to say 'Indonesia'? Yeah, right. Sumatra was crawling with Mau Maus in the '50s. He hasn't an ice cube's chance in the Atacama of the GOP nomination nor a snowball's chance in Gehenna of being elected president.

Have a nice weekend.
